Natural Disasters
Natural Disasters Youth Summit (NDYS) is a global collaborative educational project focused on disaster prevention. Various experiences and practices of the participants are shared and introduced to the world through the NDYS web site and conferences. Students aquire the knowledge and power to cope with unexpected disasters wherever they live. As a result, they grow as global citizens.
The first NDYS in 2005 coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which left more than 6000 people dead after it struck the southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
Since then, there have been four other summits, with over 70 coutries and 200 schools participating. Host countries include Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Taiwan. The 2010 NDYS will be in Istanbul, Turkey.
